Post on bare soil spraying, by Hans Christian Juel from danfoil.
When one talks about bare soil spraying and Danfoil, there are some who suspect the Danfoil sprayer of creating more drift than the ordinary spraying technique. They refer to a few spraying insistences, which sadly are the only memories they associate with Danfoil. But with the right settings for the sprayer, Danfoil's spray technique is the one that has the lowest drift compared to the conventional spray technique – at approximately the same level as sprayers with assisted air. This has been proven by several drift tests performed by the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences and the German JKI. Even more important, practical experience from danfoil users has shown that it is possible to spray on bare soil with 7-8 sec./M, with good results and without drift.
Proper sprayer settings crucial for drift when spraying on bare soil
With proper adjustment of air pressure and boom height combined with the optimum driving speed, Gad Maskinstation can minimize drift when spraying on bare ground by using one of their three danfoil ConCorde trailed sprayers.
Reduction of chemicals through spot-spraying provides good economic savings
With the right setting, combined with new practices and a strong will, Thor Kofoed saves up to 25-30% of his chemical costs annually by using a danfoil ConCorde 24M trailed sprayer with injection system.
Thor Kofoed from Nexø on Bornholm has for the last five years made use of a chemical-saving-technique that gives him some good opportunities both in relation to the environment, but for him as manager, it is more a question of economics, as there are big savings to gain from such a spraying technique.
Thor Kofoed has teamed up with another farmer and together they have approx. 400 acres to spray every year. They recently invested in a new danfoil sprayer, as they now are three that uses the same sprayer, bringing them up to approx. 600 acres next year.
Possible chemical reduction
The danfoil spraying-technology will ensure an efficient spraying and large capacity, as well as it will make it possible to reduce the consumption of chemicals for a variety of spraying tasks
By: Hans Chr. Juel, danfoil
The danfoil spraying-technology will ensure an efficient spraying and large capacity, as well as it will make it possible to reduce the consumption of chemicals for a variety of spraying tasks, compared to the amount chosen when spraying with a conventional sprayer. In relation to chemical reduction, it is almost impossible to make a specific table, a chart or similar, as weather, temperature and other conditions vary from year to year. Also the geographical environment must be considered. However, it is certain that the amount used, of a number of the resources available, can be reduced.
