Drift

A question frequently asked is how wind drift from a danfoil sprayer can be controlled with such a high percentage of small droplets?

Part of the answer can be found in the droplet analysis. The velocity of the small droplets is already, at a pressure of 10 cm VS, twice the speed known from hydraulic nozzles. This gives the droplets from a Eurofoil atomizer about four times as much energy to reach their target.  Furthermore, the spray angle and the droplets flight-time  must also be taken into consideration.

The last part of the answer lies in the drift approvals the tests danfoil have completed through the years, which have demonstrated that the Eurofoil atomizer is fully in line with conventional nozzles. In 2009, the Eurofoil atomizer was approved by JKI as 75% drift reducing. The approval was based on drift testing done in collaboration with research center Flakkebjerg. The experiments were made in accordance with the applicable standards and guidelines from JKI. The graph on the following page shows the result, where danfoils Eurofoil atomizer is significantly below the 75 % drift reduction. At the same time the approval from JKI proves that wind drift can be controlled with a danfoil sprayer – even better than many of the competitors.

 

 

 

The following two figures show the drift results. Moreover, in the experiment, shown in figure 2, a Hardi Twin sprayer attended. As shown by figure nr. 2, there was less from the danfoil sprayer within the first meter, after which the measured wind drift of the two sprayers were the same.

 

The diagram shows that drift from a Danfoil sprayer was about half the drift from a concentional sprayer fitted with TeeJet XR 110-04 nozzle. The average wind speed was 4,3-7,0 m/s during the trials with three replications per each sprayer.

The diagram shows that drift from a danfoil sprayer was about half the drint from a conventional sprayer fitted with TeeJet XR 110-04 nozzle, whereas it was at the same level as the drift from Hardi Twin except wind speed from the first metre. The average wind speed was 4.2-7.0 m/s during the trials with three replications per each sprayer.
